Welcome to the Fearless Walkers of Stoneham’s website and blog.

As part of Stoneham’s “Walk to School Campaign”, this website and blog offers information on our campaign, relevant events both locally and nationally, available resource links and research, local obstacles and the affect of media on our choice to walk to school with our children.   Our fearlesswalkers blog offers a forum for those in who want to add ideas or comment.

What could be simpler than walking to school?

Much of the reduction in “active” transportation to school (walking and biking) is as a result of fear.  Some of this is very understandable. However if we also understand that some of this fear has been created by unbalance in the media.  Being educated in safe Walk to School practices and understanding and managing our environment will result in more fearless and safer walking to school.

Here in our community of Stoneham, the majority of the elementary students live within a mile of their school.  Worldwide and across the US there has been a rise in awareness of the benefits of walking to school.  These benefits have been backed-up by an accumulation of great research.  This has lead to an increase in support monetarily and organizationally through The Massachusetts Office of Transportation for interested communities.  We here in Stoneham have been fortunate to take advantage of this great opportunity to be part of this movement and make this a more healthy, fit and connected community.

Feel free to browse, ask questions, or contact us if you want to be involved in this campaign to get our children back to basics through walking and biking to school.
